Self-Catering Holidays In Perthshire Chalets

Some discounts may be available when renting Perthshire chalets. These can include special offers or reductions for people over 60 years of age, for a second consecutive week in the chalet, or for hiring two chalets at the same time. Even if such discounts are not advertised on the website, it’s worth enquiring.

When investigating the overall cost, check whether there are any extras for items such as electricity. In many cases, the first few pounds’ worth of the electricity cost is included but, beyond this, extra charges apply.

Unsurprisingly, the high seasons for booking chalets are during school holidays, with the highest prices mainly in August and during New Year week. At other times the cost can be as low as half the amount charged during the peak periods. The rental charges are usually listed per chalet, not per person, so groups can divide the cost between them.

Most bookings are for a week or two at a time, but outside the peak seasons short-break bookings for chalets may be available.

The location of car parking also needs to be considered. Is it conveniently available next to the chalet or some distance away? This could be a consideration if young children or disabled people are in the party.

If you plan to take a dog on holiday with you, check, too, whether pets are allowed. In some cases they are welcome but in other locations they are not, or may be ‘considered’ when the booking is applied for.

Linen is usually provided, but check whether you need to take your own towels. A cot and high chair may be available if needed. Find out what entertainment facilities are provided at the Perthshire chalets. These usually include television, radio/CD player and DVD player, and sometimes internet access.

You can expect to find chalets equipped with central heating, double-glazing, fridge-freezer, hob, oven, microwave, washing machine and appropriate furniture plus a table and chairs for outside use – perhaps on a private veranda.

Although the words ‘chalet’ or ‘lodge’ may give the impression of rather basic accommodation, in most cases you can expect to find all the comforts of home, with plenty of facilities. These can include bathrooms en suite, with bath and shower.

Perthshire chalets provide accommodation that varies in size from cosy one-bedroom chalets for two people, up to those with several bedrooms, catering for big families or large parties of people choosing to holiday in Perthshire.

Most chalets are constructed of wood, and have pointed roofs and overhanging eves. Many have balconies with views over attractive hilly or mountainous countryside. The construction is usually reminiscent of traditional Swiss chalets. The most substantial versions could, more accurately, be called holiday cottages.

Chalet holiday homes are usually found located in a development comprising several chalets in an attractive location, such as a Highland estate, although some farm or caravan site locations may host just one or two.

When looking for holiday accommodation in Perthshire, consider the self-catering chalets that are available at a number of locations. Details of the exact locations can be found on the internet where more information and booking facilities are available.

The local scenery is a major attraction of any Scottish holiday. Perthshire is at the heart of Scotland, extending from the Lowlands into the scenic Highlands. Walking, cycling, fishing and boating can be enjoyed during a holiday in this part of Scotland – often with easy access to these activities from the chalet.

Chalets in Perthshire provide ideal accommodation for a self-catering holiday. Chalets are sometimes called ‘lodges’ and are available to rent in many attractive locations.

I’m wanting to adopt a dog?

Me and my parents have agreed that we would like to adopt a dog. This will be the first time i have owned a dog but my dad owned a west highland terrier when he was a child. However i like akitas. I searched my local shelter website and this is what i found:http://www.dogsblog.com/category/akita/

The only problem is the dog would be left alone for about 8 hours everyday except Saturday and Sunday due to my school and parents work. Are akitas alright with spending this time alone or not. And will the shelter not allow me to adopt a dog if they know it will be left alone for this amount of time. Although when when we first get the dog it will be our school holidays so i will be at home for about 6 weeks so it can settle in.

My main question is which or none of the akitas at my local shelter will be able to stay alone for 8 hours everyday except Saturday and Sunday. And if none can what dog will be fine with being left alone for this amount of time.

I don’t see many that fit your needs. As a first time dog owner, adopting an Akita may be a bit too much. They are an extraordinary breed, but take a lot of dog knowledge to handle their strength and character. I would not adopt a dog under 2 years old since he would be home for 8 hours by himself. I would also not adopt one that has food aggression/possession issues since you are a first time dog owner. I would talk more with your shelter about this breed to assess if it is something you are savvy enough to handle. The shelter gives excellent descriptions and seems very knowledgeable about Akitas. Good luck in your search.

Biographies are supposed to deal with people, not places, but Adam Nicolson’s lyrical new book, Sea Room, is best seen as a biography. Dealing with the geology, history, natural history, sociology, and emotional resonance of the Shiants–a trio of Hebridean Islands between Skye and Harris –Nicolson’s book is an all-encompassing characterisation of this remote corner of the British Isles.
